Meaghan Wilson Anastasios

Author of 'The Water Diviner,' now a film with Russell Crowe, and screenwriter of 'The Pacific with Sam Neill.'

Pining at the moment. *Sigh*. Take me back! Because I’m back home after three months spent on a working holiday in Europe.

It came about because the husband and I decided to see how we’d go parking ourselves in three places for a month apiece. We chose the Andalucian town of Gaucin in Spain, the island of Ortigia which is parked just off Syracuse in Sicily, and the Greek island of Symi. Verdict? We chose wisely. Off the charts sublime. Life changing.

And with side trips to Taormina, Pompeii and Polignano a Mare in Italy, Athens in Greece, and Bodrum and Istanbul in Turkey, I was spoiled for choice when it came to capturing beautiful moments on film. Which is something I have become a bit obsessed with, between sessions parked behind my laptop.

So for the past four months or so, I’ve been taking short clips I shot in Europe and writing vignettes to accompany them. It’s my small attempt to capture the exquisite beauty and transient nature of human existence and encourage people to pause for a moment and think about the world around them. Along the way, photography and visual storytelling has become an incredibly important outlet for me. Who knew?

Most importantly, people are responding to the work I’m doing. Which, ultimately, is why I do what I do. If the work I do reaches someone and touches them… well, few things move me more than to know that something I have written has had a positive impact on someone.

Not saying I’ve moved far beyond photography 101. But when I’m in travel mode, I do seem to be able to spot moments that deserve to be captured and preserved. So, please indulge me – between ramblings here about the day to day aspects of being a writer with the odd recipe thrown in for good measure, I’m going to publish links to some of my clips here, in case you want to wander over and have a look at what I’m doing in that space.

Otherwise, scroll on and completely ignore it! I’ll never know! And normal programming will resume tomorrow.

Carry on!
